Couples Therapy
Most issues within a couple start small and then grow in size when they go unresolved. Couples therapy will provide you and your partner with guidance and tools to improve your connection. Couples therapy can help you resolve emotional and interpersonal struggles that influence your present situation. Couples therapy will help you highlight cycles in your current relationship and talk freely about how these patterns keep you in conflict and disconnection with your relationship. Couples learn psychological insight and skills that they can practice outside of the arena (the counseling session) to help build intimacy and trust within their private environment. I have a passion for helping couples learn the two overarching communication skills, being Clear and Considerate. One of the goals of my practice is to help clients identify their love language and learn how it influence their thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and ideas towards their partner. I strongly believe that effective communication skills lead to a healthy relationship.
However, couples should be motivated to make a positive change in their lives and relationship. Often times, couples are not sure if therapy will work for them. Most feel uncomfortable about sharing the details of their relationship. Some couples are already on the verge of a break up, separation, or divorce and are not sure if couples therapy will work. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Family Systems Therapy is an approach that focuses on getting a positive outcome regardless of the couples decision. Couples learn the skills for a healthy transition into the next chapter of their relationship.
Techniques used are The Gottman Theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Family Systems Therapy (other therapeutic techniques practiced depending on the presenting problems and treatment goal).
I treat couples in the following areas:
- Relationship difficulties
- Intimacy problems and emotional distancing
- Communication problems
- Premarital
- Separation
- Divorce
The relationship is the client and my work is guided by making love last and keeping couples together. Marriage and couples therapy can indeed save and strengthen marriage and relationships. However, some marriages and relationships may not survive treatment and couples may grow individually towards a healthy end of the relationship.
"Behind every happy couple lies two people who have fought hard to overcome all obstacles and interference to be that way. Why? Because it's what they wanted." ~ Kim George
Let's start the conversation. I look forward to taking this journey with you.
