About me

Therapist

Welcome, my name is Margo S. Claybrooks, LCPC, NCC

Mental Health Clinician

My experience in the field of Mental Health enables me to offer effective out-patient mental health treatment and psychological care.

I attended Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY and received a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling. In addition, I've earned a Master's degree in Education from Bowie State University in Bowie, MD. I have worked in the mental health field for several years providing mental health services to individuals, couples, families, and psychiatric groups. My experience includes psychiatric assessments, in-patient treatment including co-occurring and severe mental health disorders, intensive out-patient treatment, private practice, and counseling in public school settings. I've worked with children to advancing adults. My current focus is working with adults including individual and marriage/couples therapy.

Although eclectic my approach is guided by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. However, people are individual and your presenting concerns are unique to you. Depending on your treatment goal(s) we will work together to find the best approach. It is important to my practice to not fit all clients into one box.

My niche is working with clients suffering from Anxiety, Depression, and Relationship Stressors. I believe that behavior is determined by experiences from earlier life events that are lodged in our unconscious. Furthermore, these early events can shape negative Core Beliefs that can influence how we think about current life events. Negative core beliefs are likely to have a negative impact on our relationships and how we show up in the world around us. I operate from an insight-oriented therapeutic stance as I deem change that happens inside-out to be most lasting; while at the same time encouraging outside-in changes that can be used as a spring board to promote insight for more healthy outcomes, and effective lasting change.

It is not easy asking for help and doing so with a stranger. Therapy is a journey and it is important to my practice that I provide a warm and welcoming environment and to develop a genuine therapeutic relationship with all clients, thus easing the journey.

A better mental health awaits you, but remember, you must be motivated and connected in order to do the work.

I look forward to taking this journey with you!
